Zac Efron Biography
-
Zac Efron was born on October 18, 1987
in San Luis Obispo, California to David and Starla Baskett. His
family moved when he was very young to Arroyo Grande (also in
California). He has a younger brother named Dylan.
-
He had always been interested in
performing and used to sing and act for his family. However, it was
not until he was about eleven years old that he and his family
decided to become serious about a career and he started to take
singing lessons. Soon afterwards he landed his first real role in a
production of the play Gypsy. This led to other parts on the
stage such as in Peter Pan, Little Shop of Horrors,
Mame and The Music Man.
-
He then began to turn his attention to
television and in 2002 made his TV debut in an episode of Firefly.
The following year he appeared in an episode of E.R. and a
part in the made for TV comedy called The Big Wide World of Carl
Laemke.
-

child in a TV movie drama in 2004 entitled Miracle Run, for
which he was nominated for the Young Artist Award for Best
Performance in a TV Movie, Miniseries or Special - Supporting Young
Actor. 2004 kept on getting better, another big break also came
that year when he appeared as Cameron Bale in the television series
Summerland, which continued through 2005.
-
In 2006, he appeared in the highly
popular Disney made for TV movie High School Musical along
side two other young actors, Vanessa Anne Hudgens and
Ashley
Tisdale. The movie did very well in the ratings for its
demographics, but to everyone's delight, the music from the
soundtrack has made a big splash on the U.S. charts. In fact,
the single "Breaking Free" - a duo he sings with
Vanessa Anne Hudgens has reached #4 on Billboard and
made history when it dropped 82 places from #86 one week earlier - the
largest single jump ever!
