Usher Biography

Usher was born on October
14th in Dallas, Texas. He was raised by
his mother Jonnetta Patton. He has a younger brother
named James.

In 1992, he began singing
in his church choir at age 6, and entered many
talent shows a a youth. He was
"discovered" at a talent show by Bryant Reid of
LaFace Records. Usher then auditioned for
Bryant's Brother, Antoni Reid (co-president of
LaFace), and they struck a deal to record an
album. The album only had minor success

In 1997, Usher released
his second album, My Way,
which was a
success on the R&B charts. One of the singles
from the album, "You Make Me Wanna" earned him
the 1997 Soul
Train Award for Best R&B Single by a Male and a
Grammy nomination.

Nominated
for the Image Award for
Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series for
his role as Raymond on the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful in 1999.

He Won
the Young Hollywood Award for One to Watch -
Male in 2001.

For the
32nd annual American Music Awards in 2004 he won
all four categories in which he was nominated,
including Favorite Male Artist and Favorite
Album (Confessions) in both the Pop/Rock
and Soul/R&B categories.
