Tobey Maquire Biography

Born
on June 27, 1975 to Wendy & Vincent Maguire.
He has four half-brothers (from his father)
named Vincent, Jr., Timothy, Jopaul Epp and
Weston Epp.

His
parents were young (18 and 20) and never
married. They split up when he was still
an infant. Growing up, he moved back and
forth between them as a youth living in
California, Oregon and Washington.

He
was always interested in being a chef as a
child, but was persuaded by his mother to take
acting classes in school. He became so
interested in acting (and not school) that he
dropped out of school only after the ninth grade
to pursue a career as an actor. Did
TV appearances and commercials when first
breaking into the business.

His
first starring role on TV was with a show called
Great Scott!, but the show was cancelled in its
first season. Although it was short run, he won
the
Yong Artists Award for Best Young Actor
in New Television Series for this role.

His
first big break in movies was in 1996 with
Duke of Groove, which won an Oscar for a
Short Film

1998
Tobey received his first starring role in a
movie with Pleasantville. The movie held
critical acclaim and was nominated for three
Oscars.

In
1999 he was in another big movie, Cider House
Rules, which was nominated for seven Oscars,
and received two (Writing of an adapted
screenplay and Actor in a supporting role –
Michael Caine).

He
won the Best Performance, Male Award by the
Toronto Film Critics Association in 2000 for his
role in Wonder Boys.

He
made it into stardom with his role of Peter
Parker in the movie Spiderman in 2002,
which broke all previous box office records
(although only nominated for 2 Oscars).

In
2003 he co-starred in another big film,
Seabiscuit. The movie received seven
nominations, including one for Best Picture. Tobey was also listed as an Executive Producer
for this movie. He was won and was awarded for
many awards for this role including a nomination
for the Screen Actors Guild Award for
Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a
Motion Picture.

Spiderman
2 was released in 2004, and was even bigger
than the first movie. For his role, he won
the Saturn Award for Best Actor. He was also
nominated for the Empire Award for Best Actor.

Being
a big poker player, he has played in the World
Series of Poker and in 2004, he won the
Phil Hellmuth Poker Invitational.

pool

Facts: Currently
lives in Los Angeles, California. He is a
vegetarian. He studies Yoga. He has never
read a Spiderman comic book.
