Terry O'Quinn (Born: Terrance Quinn on July
15, 1952 in Newberry, Michigan, USA) is an American actor. He attended
the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He currently plays the role
of John Locke on the popular ABC TV series Lost.
O'Quinn began acting in the 1970s in films
such as Tombstone and Heaven's Gate. His early television roles included
guest appearances on Earth 2, Moonlighting, Star Trek: The Next
Generation, and JAG. In 1995, O'Quinn began a series of guest
appearances in shows produced by The X-Files producer Chris Carter. In
addition to The X-Files, Carter cast his friend O'Quinn in the TV series
Millennium and Harsh Realm as well as in the X-Files movie Fight the
Future.
After a 2002 appearance on Alias, O'Quinn
became a favorite of yet another TV producer, this time J.J. Abrams.
Following a seven-episode guest run on The West Wing in 2003 and 2004,
O'Quinn got a call from Abrams indicating that the producer wanted to
cast him (without any audition needed) in his new television drama Lost,
about a group of people stranded on a mysterious island after a plane
crash. The mystery - conspiracy theory series proved an immediate
success with viewers, and O'Quinn's character - the island's prophet of
sorts - is a fan favorite. In July 2005, O'Quinn received an Emmy
nomination for best supporting actor in a drama for his work as John
Locke on Lost.
As of 2005 O'Quinn has been married to his
wife, Lori, for 25 years. Most of that time they lived in Finksburg,
Maryland, but after Lost began airing the couple decided to follow the
example of O'Quinn's co-stars and move to Hawaii, where the series is
shot.
O'Quinn and his wife are the parents to two
grown sons, Jack Conway and Rob Wiper who live on the West Coast of the
United States.
