Teri Hatcher Biography
-
Teri Hatcher was born on December 8,
1964 just outside of San Francisco, in Sunnyvale, California to
Esther and Owen Hatcher.
-
Even as a young girl, she always loved
dancing and entertainment. In Fremont High School (in Sunnyvale,
California), she was the captain of her school dance team, the
Featherettes (they were like cheerleaders, without the costumes).
-
After graduating H.S. in 1982, she
attended the De Anza College (in Cupertino, California) pursuing a
degree in mathematics and engineering. She also began to study
acting at the American Conservatory Theater at the same time.
-
In 1984, she became a member of the San
Francisco 49ers cheerleading squad (called the Gold Rush).
-
In early 1985, a friend was nervous
about going to an open audition, so she went along for support. By
the end of the day, she landed her first role on television as Amy,
the Love Mermaid on the popular television series, The Love Boat.
She also had a reoccurring role on the television series MacGyver
and appeared on seven episodes between 1986 and 1987.
-
In June, 1988, she began a short
marriage with Marcus Leithold. However, they divorced the following
year.
-
The role as a singing mermaid lasted
for two years. Afterwards, she appeared in a few television shows
and on the big screen. Her movie debut (although not a very large
part) came in 1989 as Gretchen in The Big Picture.
-
Her first big break came in 1993 when
she was given the role of Lois Lane on the TV series Lois and
Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. This venue gave her
exposure to a wide audience. As the internet became popular in the
mid 1990’s, so did a picture of her clad in nothing but Superman’s
cape and reportedly was the most downloaded picture at one time.
-
In May 1994, Teri married for the
second time to actor Jon Tenny. [Note: They were married at FAO
Schwartz toy store in NYC.] They had a daughter, Emerson Rose in
November 1997. They were divorced in March 2003.
-
In 1996, she took her acting on the
road portraying Sally Bowless in a production of the play Cabaret.
-
After being awarded the 1996 Golden
Globe Award for Female Discovery of the Year, Teri’s next big break
came in 1997, when she was thrust into stardom as a sex symbol as a
“Bond Girl” in Tomorrow Never Dies. She was nominated for the
Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role.
-
During the late 1990s and early 2000’s,
she did miscellaneous movies and television shows. Then in 2004,
she received a really big break by getting the role of Susan Mayer
on the hit television series Desperate Housewives. She has
won many awards for this role including the 2005 Golden Globe Award
for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical
or Comedy, 2005 Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding
Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series (shared with cast),
and the 005 Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Outstanding Performance
by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series. She was also nominated for the
2005 2005 Golden Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Series,
Comedy or Musical.
-
Hobbies & Interests: Her family,
