Dominic Monaghan (born December 8, 1976 in
Berlin) is an English actor who was thrust into stardom with the success
of Peter Jackson's adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the
Rings in which he played the character of Merry Brandybuck.
Born and raised in Berlin, Dominic and his
family moved to Manchester, England when he was 12. In addition to
speaking fluent German, he has a knack at impersonations and accents.
His first major role was in the BBC television series, Hetty Wainthropp
Investigates, in which he played the sidekick of Hetty (Patricia
Routledge). Dominic now plays the character Charlie on the television
show Lost.
It is rumoured that he lives in Hawaii
together with Lost costar Evangeline Lilly; The two have never come
forward and officially "announced" their relationship. On November 8,
2005 tabloid photos of the two were published in a variety of magazines
and websites, featuring the two kissing intimately while taking a break
from surfing.
He is also a keen environmentalist, and has
been active in planting/preservation of trees and forests. He owns a
small forest in India.
