Christian Bale was born on January 30, 1974 in Haverfordwest, Wales to David (commercial pilot) and XXX Bale
(divorced). His father remarried in 2000 to author Gloria
Steinem. He has three older sisters, Erin (musician), Sharon
(technology) and Louise (actress). His family moved to England
when he was young.

In 1983, at the age of 9, he did a television
commercial for Pac-Man cereal.

His professional debut was in the role of an
American boy in a production of The Nerd in London's West End
in 1985.

He made his Television debut in 1986 as Alexi
in the miniseries Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna.

His big break, and big screen debut
came in 1987 in his lead role as Jim Graham in Stephen Speilberg's
Empire of the Sun and won the NBR Award for Best Juvenile
Performance and the Young Artists Award for
Best Young Actor in a
Motion Picture - Drama.

He continued to take other parts in
movies such as Newsies (1992) in Swing Kids (1993) in
which both casts was nominated for a Young Artist Award for
Outstanding Youth
Ensemble in a Motion Picture.

In 2000, he made his way into the hearts of
moviegoers as Patrick Bateman in American Psycho and has
become a pop icon ever since.

He married Sibi (Sandra) Blasic in January
2000.

In 2000 he was named one of the top eight
"most powerful cult figures" of the past decade by Entertainment
Weekly.

He has been chosen to portray Bruce Wayne and
his Dark Night counterego in the upcoming movie Batman Returns
with Kate Bosworth as Lois
Lane. The movie will be opening in theaters on June 17th!

Miscellaneous: He loves to ride horses and
read books. He also loves animals and has numerous cats and
dogs. He is also very active with many charities such as Ark
Trust, Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Foundation.
