Biography of Amy Acuff

  •  Amy Acuff was born on July 14, 1975 in Port Arthur, Tesas.

  •  She attended Callahan High School in Corpus Cristi, Texas, then went to UCLA and graduated in 1997 with a degree in biology. She began studying to become a doctor of Oriental Magazine in 2000 at the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, Texas (after using acupuncture to help her

  •  Her athletic highlights as a high-jumper include:

    • Placed Fourth in the 2004 Olympics for the high jump (after finishing third in the Olympic trials)

      • She qualified for the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, but hurt her ankle before competing in '96 and had a car accident two weeks before the competition started in '00.

    • Four time U.S. Outdoor Champion (1995, 1997, 2001 and 2003)

    • Two time U.S. Indoor Champion (2001 and 2004)

    • Three time NCAA Indoor Champion (1994, 1995 and 1997)

    • Two time NCAA Outdoor Champion (1995 and 1996)

    • 1997 World University Game Champion

    • Named National High School Athlete of the Year in 1993 (she did not have a coach in High School and learned how to jump by watching videos and learning books - she was nicknamed the "mail order high jumper"

  •  She is engaged to pole-vaulter and Silver Medalist Tye Harvey.

  •  Her fame hit new heights, not because of her athletic ability, but because of her nude photographs in Playboy magazine (with fellow Olympians Mary Sauer, Katie Vermeulen and Susan Tiedtke-Green).  However, she has also modeled "with her clothes on" in other magazines such as Sports Illustrated, Esquire, Maxim, Vogue and others.
