Alizée Jacotey (pronounced as Ah-lee-zay, with all
syllables being short and clipped) was born August 21, 1984 in Ajaccio, Corsica.
Daughter of a computer scientist and a businesswoman, with a younger brother
Johann, she is a famed French singer. Her stage name is Alizée - the feminine
form of alizé, or the trade wind. She is considered to be the protégée of Mylène
"Farmer" Gautier, a well-established and successful Quebec-born French singer.
Alizée's first single, which has been her most
popular, was Moi... Lolita. It enjoyed success throughout most of Europe and
parts of east Asia. Indeed, Alizée's image was that of a seductive Lolita
character. But after Moi... Lolita, she changed her image from that of a Lolita
to a seventeen year old girl. Her second single "L'alizé" was also sucessful
(hitting number 1 in France). Both the singles were from her debut album, "Gourmandises",
which translates to "Sweets" in english, was written by Farmer and composed by
Boutonnat. The album sold over 800,000 copies in France. It went Platinum in
just 3 months. In 2001, with huge international interest, the album got launched
internationally and its success was phenomenal.
In 2003 she returned with her second album "Mes
Courants Électriques", or "My Electric Currents" in english translation. This
album also was written by Farmer and Boutonnat. The first single from this
album, "J'en Ai Marre", known as "Mon Bain de Mousse" in Japan, had some success
outside France, although not to the same extent. This second album, featuring
English versions of four tracks, was not as well recieved as "Gourmandises". It
sold a little over 200,000 copies. The album was supported by a countrywide
tour. A live CD and DVD, by the name "Alizée En Concert", followed. The DVD
featured never-before-seen footage of her rehearsals.
Alizée can now pride herself on having sold more
than four million records, of all her albums combined, althroughout Europe. She
has even starred in a commercial in Japan. In addition, she has taken part in
various stage shows and live performances. As she has herself said, she loves to
be on the stage, in front of the crowd.
Alizée is currently taking a break from singing,
but is rumoured to be returning with a new album in April, 2006 with the first
single possibly being released in March, 2006. The new album will be distinct in
style from her previous albums, in the sense that the music will be more of rock
music, though it will not disappoint fans of her current style.
Alizée married fellow French singer Jérémy
Châtelain on November 6, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The couple had their
first child, a girl, Anny-Lee (Annily), born on April 29, 2005. Alizée is
currently residing in Paris, France.

Biography
Known by her nickname Lili, this brown-haired,
brown-eyed beauty was born in the Corsican capital Ajaccio on 21 August 1984. By
the tender age of four, she excelled at jazz, tap and classical dance, and got
drawn to show business. She also expressed her artistic worth at the easel and
in 1995 she won a colouring competition organised by Air France. Little Alizée's
design won first prize and ended up reproduced on the cabin of an aircraft,
which got its name after her, and Alizée won a trip to the Maldives.
Her life took a dramatic turn in 1999 when Alizée
passed the auditions to appear on the TV talent show "Graines de Star"
(broadcast on M6). Alizée had originally wanted to sign up for the programme's
dance contest. However, as the dance category was reserved for groups, the
budding young artiste entered herself for the singing category instead. And she
went on to win the hearts of millions of viewers, scooping the "Meilleure
Graine" award for most promising young singing star of tomorrow.
Alizée's winning performance was seen by veteran
French pop diva Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, who were looking for a
young and fresh voice to do their new project. And they approached Alizée, who
was selected unanimously after the studio selections. And the trio joined hands
to launch her career in style, which shot her to overnight fame.
Private
Life
Alizée is a very private person. As such, very
little of her personal life is in the public's eyes. Its her "character not
showing too much" of her self to the people, because that could "tire the
people".
Even though she has a singing career, its dancing
that she likes the most. She is quite proficient in jazz, ballet, tap and
flamenco. Though she doesn't get too much time to do it now because of her
family as well as career priorities.
She is a great fan of Brad Pitt, who she first
watched in "Legends of the Fall" and has been "following his career ever since".
In addition, she loves football. She is an ardent
supporter of the Ajaccio Football club, and was once invited to kick off one of
their matches.
